Vaccines For Kids 5-12 Offered At Schools, Other County Sites

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FL — Working with NOMI Health, Miami-Dade County is offering the COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 12 years at seven of the regular county-run vaccination sites, according to a news release. The county and NOMI are also working with Miami-Dade County Public Schools to bring weekly pop-ups to elementary schools across the community to offer easy vaccination access for children and parents. Earlier this month, federal health officials gave the go-ahead to COVID-19 vaccinations for Florida children ages 5 to 11, setting off a new, long-awaited phase in the battle against the pandemic. The vaccine was previously approved for children 12 to 17. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for elementary school-aged children, paving the way for inoculations for some 28 million youths across the country. This includes 1.6 million kids in Florida. The mayor added, "As a mother and a grandmother, I understand that every parent wants to protect their children. We know that vaccination is the single best tool we have to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe during the pandemic, and I encourage all eligible residents to get the vaccine as soon as possible."
