Fight Sparks Gunshots At Potomac Mills Mall, Suspect Sought

Updated at 5:30 p.m. WOODBRIDGE, VA — One person was injured in a shooting at the Fashion Mechanics store at the Potomac Mills mall in Woodbridge on Thursday afternoon, police said. Authorities said there is not an active threat; the shooting stemmed from a fight between two customers at a store In an update, police said one person was being treated for a gunshot wound to the leg at a nearby hospital. They also said the shooting was isolated to one store. Police officers established a perimeter around the Fashion Mechanics store in the mall, and evidence markers were placed around several cartridge casings on the floor. Liam Griffin/Patch Al Sheikh is the owner of the Fashion Mechanics store. He said the shooting occurred after an argument and a fight between two customers. Authorities said one of the customers pulled out a gun during the fight and fired multiple rounds, striking the other customer. The Prince William County Police Department said both customers, who were only identified as men, fled the area after the shooting. The man who was shot drove himself to an area hospital, police said. The shooter has not been located or identified. Liliana Ambriz works at the Sweet Home Furniture store next to Fashion Mechanics, where the shooting took place. Thursday was her second day working at the mall. Ambriz said she heard arguing and more than eight gunshots. "When I heard the gunshots, I got under my desk and I prayed," Ambriz said. The police department said there would be a large police presence in the area as officers investigate the shooting. Many of the mall's stores closed their doors as police investigated the area, but the mall was not closed.
