MANCHESTER, CT — State police were Howell Cheney Technical High School in Manchester Thursday morning to investigate reports of a threat made by a student against the campus, authorities said. The report came in a 6:47 a.m. to the state police troop H barracks from a family member, state police said. The family member said that a Cheney Tech student was in "emotional crisis" and had made threats against the school, according to state police. The student was riding a bus to school and the bus was subsequently "intercepted" and the student was detained, state police said. State police said the incident was not related to a firearm or a firearm threat, but a knife was recovered. At about 9 a.m., a dog patrol could be seen at the school, but students were inside the building. The student was transported to an area hospital for an evaluation, state police said. There is no threat to the public, and "out of an abundance of caution," there will be an increased police presence at the school Thursday, state police said. State police said the investigation "is in its early stages."
