ROUND ROCK, TX — Round Rock City Council will consider signing a statewide opioid settlement on Thursday that would help fund local programs. Once signed, the settlement would allow the city to receive a maximum one-time payment of $475,992 to fund local opioid abatement programs. These funds come as part of the settlement agreement entered into by the state of Texas, manufacturer Johnson & Johnson, as well as three distributors, according to city documents. Political subdivisions in the state, such as counties and municipalities, can sign onto the agreement and receive a portion of the monies. Williamson County has already signed onto such an agreement and is slated to receive a maximum of $1.19 million. Hutto also signed onto the $26 billion settlement in September, when a similar resolution was brought before council.
