Press release from the City of Ames: 11/17/2021 10:30 AM A survey to generate feedback from Ames residents on greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals as part of the City's climate action planning is now available on the City's website. Participants are asked to take the survey one time to share their thoughts on this part of the planning process. The survey is available at https://confluence.mysocialpinpoint.com/ames-climate-action-plan/engagement/  and will remain available through 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 10. Paper copies of the survey will be available at the Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., by the end of the week. The survey asks questions a series of questions about Climate Action Plan (CAP) goal-setting priorities. There are also opportunities for open-ended comments. Information gathered from the survey will be presented to the Ames City Council prior to the next CAP workshop at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 21. Earlier this year, the City of Ames began a climate action planning and goal-setting process to provide concrete recommendations and a target for GHG reductions. CAPs are comprehensive roadmaps that outline the specific activities an organization, region, or community will undertake to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A community-wide GHG inventory was completed in 2020 and provides a foundation from which to build a CAP and inform community goals for reduction. "At each step in the CAP process, we are reaching out to gather community feedback. The entire process is built on a foundation of being open and transparent to create the best possible plan for Ames. We need everyone to participate," said Assistant City Manager Deb Schildroth, who serves as the project leader. "We are striving to develop an Ames CAP that establishes relevant, achievable, and cost-effective strategies to reduce our community's carbon footprint." Sustainability Solutions Group (SSG) has been hired to facilitate the process. The Ames City Council serves as the project steering committee, and a volunteer, representative Supplemental Input Committee has been appointed to help provide feedback.
