PITTSBURGH, PA — Not to boast, but Patch warned you last week that the Steelers last game against the Detroit Lions had all the makings of a "trap" game for the black-and-gold guys. Patch cautioned that the Steelers might overlook the Lions, who came into the game winless, as they instead looked ahead to the most difficult portion of their schedule coming up. It was a trap, all right. The Steelers found themselves trapped into a 16-16 tie in an absolutely brutal showing that found both teams trying desperately to give away the game. Given the low level of play, however, neither team was successful even at that. So now the Steelers are 5-3-1 and are journeying to the West Coast to take on the Los Angeles Chargers. They Steelers traditionally don't play well when they journey across three time zones and they could be playing without a host of injured or ill players that include quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and linebacker T.J. Watt. The Chargers come into the game tied for second place in the AFC West with a 5-4 record, but coming off a disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings. A key statistic from that game was Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert failed to throw for more than 200 yards for just the third time in his career. Will Herbert rebound? Can the Steelers overcome a possible plethora of starting players out of the lineup? All Patch knows about this week's game is that after last week's game, anything is possible.
