Description
JOLIET, IL — The 38-year-old man shot by Joliet police officers Tuesday afternoon in the Wendy's parking lot on North Center Street now faces three drug-dealing charges.
The Will County State's Attorney's Office of Jim Glasgow charged William Jenkins with three counts of delivery of a controlled substance.
When Joliet police tried to arrest Jenkins on Tuesday afternoon, authorities say the drug-dealing suspect backed his vehicle into a Joliet police officer, pinning the officer against his own vehicle. Two other Joliet officers on the scene shot Jenkins inside his vehicle.
The injured officer is expected to recover, and Jenkins' gunshot wounds were not life-threatening.
According to his criminal complaint, Jenkins delivered between 1 and 15 grams of cocaine in Joliet on Oct. 5, Oct. 7 and Oct. 20.
So far, he has not been charged in connection with the injuries suffered by the Joliet police officer who was struck by Jenkins' vehicle.
A Will County judge has set bail at $500,000 for Jenkins' three drug-dealing charges. As of Thursday, he remained in the hospital.
