JOLIET, IL — Joliet police have set up crime scene tape around the Murphy's Express on Route 59 to investigate a shooting. About a dozen Joliet police cars were on the scene, and the Murphy's was closed off to customers Thursday night.
Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English notified Joliet Patch that the shooting happened in the Walmart parking lot shortly before 6 p.m.
"The preliminary investigation indicates that only property was struck by gunfire," English announced shortly before 8 p.m. "The suspect remains at large. This appears to be an isolated incident. More information will be provided once it becomes available."
Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey said that none of his agency's ambulances were called to the scene.
Shortly after 7 p.m., Joliet resident Bob Hernandez went to the Murphy's to produce one of his Facebook Live videos.
"And this is at Murphy's on Route 59 right in front of the Walmart," Hernandez announced. "So, people who say that crime only happens on the east side or near west side of Joliet, that's not the case. It happens everywhere."
