ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst police on Wednesday released a report that gave a few more details about the incident involving an anti-masker who spit on an employee at a local business.
At this week's City Council meeting, resident Maria Kresnicka told aldermen that a man spit on her son after her son requested that he wear a mask. The man, whom Kresnicka labeled a "coward," left before police arrived.
According to a police report, the incident happened about 9 p.m. Nov. 9 at Kilwins Elmhurst, an ice cream and candy shop at 148 N. York St., next to the Classic Cinemas York Theatre. The man spit in the direction of the employee, with the employee saying "he got a droplet on him, not much," police said. The man was reported as being upset about masks.
The man was described as 5-foot-11, under 200 pounds, in his 50s, and having black and gray hair and bushy eyebrows. Police did not give the man's race.
The manager told police that the store would call 911 if the man returns. The store asked for a no-trespass order to be given to the man if he is found.
After the employee's mother spoke at the council meeting, city officials expressed concern about the belligerence being shown toward employees at businesses over mask issues.
