Press release from the City Of Davis: November 17, 2021 3:02 pm The City of Davis and its Parks and Community Services Department are pleased to announce a grand re-opening of more sports courts on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 20. These courts were completed in phase one of the City's sports courts rehabilitation plan. City councilmembers, Recreation and Park commissioners, community organizations and staff will be on hand to celebrate the re-opening of the courts. The public is welcome to attend. The celebration schedule is as follows: 9:00 a.m. Covell Park, 300 Del Oro Avenue 9:45 a.m. Redwood Park, 1001 Anderson Road The Sports Court Rehabilitation project renovated existing sports courts surfaces at six local parks that have exceeded their service life. The new court surfaces have new compacted subgrade, base layer and new fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete. The new fiber-reinforced asphalt concrete will help minimize any cracks from forming and have a longer life than standard asphalt concrete. The new courts will also provide additional pickleball courts and junior tennis courts at multiple City parks. Parks staff have worked with the Davis Tennis Club, Davis Bike Polo Club, and local pickleball players to get their input on site priorities and which courts would best meet their needs and provide a safe playing environment for the entire racquet community. Key highlights of the project: •Redwood Park playing area was expanded from its original size to accommodate one tennis court (regulation and youth lines) and four new pickleball courts and updated sport court lighting •Repaved and re-restriped multi-use and basketball courts •New acrylic surfacing for tennis and pickleball courts Funding for this project came from a number of sources including: Park Impact Fees paid by development projects, Cannery Development Agreement Enhancement Fees, Quimby Act funds, and Facility Maintenance Funds.
