CARBON HILL, AL — The Carbon Hill Police Department says an inmate from its jail is on the run after escaping sometime Wednesday. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alert Joe Brandon Thornton, 32, is also known as "Chewy" and was last seen wearing a navy blue jail uniform. Police said in an update late Wednesday evening that Thornton is suspected of breaking in to two different apartments in Walker County with elderly women inside following his escape Wednesday evening during an evacuation related to a safety issue in the jail. Neither of the women were harmed and Thornton reportedly fled before police were called. Those with any information as to Thornton's whereabouts are asked to call CHPD at (205) 924-4411.
