OCEANSIDE, NY — With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announcing drug overdose deaths eclipsing 100,000 in a year in the U.S. for the first time, the Town of Hempstead is stepping up the education against the addiction. Narcan training and drug awareness seminars are scheduled, starting with Nov. 18 at the Oceanside Knights of Columbus. The 8 p.m. event is hosted by Councilman Anthony D'Espositio, a former NYPD detective and former Island Park Fire Department chief. Narcan is a drug that reverses the potential for a fatal drug overdose. "The statistics are startling, and no community is immune from the opioid epidemic that has swept our nation," Town Supervisor Don Clavin said in a statement.
