Description

Sign up for volunteer shifts at the New Leaf Farm NOTE: EACH VOLUNTEER MUST BE REGISTERED BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE FARM. -- Minors (ages 8-17) must be registered by a parent or legal guardian. *CURRENT* 2020 schedule: Fridays and Saturdays 9:00am-12:00pm. If a date is not visible on the Eventbrite calendar that is because it is unavailable. We make sure to reserve several Saturdays a month for individual volunteers. Please wear a face mask when you arrive. You will not have to wear the mask the entire time, but will need to when processing produce. If anyone in your household is ill please cancel your volunteer shift. New Leaf Agriculture offers refugees from traditional farming cultures the chance to reconnect and grow in a trade that they are already passionate about. Volunteers help the refugee farm crew in building out our twelve-acre regenerative farm. You might do a variety of tasks such as creating farm pathways, establishing cover crops, forming new beds, harvesting, and many other things while working alongside our New Leaf crew. Each workday has different activities, depending on what needs to be accomplished at the farm that day. When you arrive there is a driveway with a small white New Leaf Farm sign in front of it. Drive down the dirt road and park in front of the open-sided barn by the greenhouse. The farm is on the back end of the property so you cannot see it from the dirt road or parking area. If you continue walking down the dirt path you should see a small pond on your left and a shed on your right. Keep walking past the shed and you should see the farm behind a small stand of trees. If you cannot find these landmarks, call Matt Simon or Wandaka Musongera and he will come and meet you near the parking area. If you get lost that morning: (Tuesdays and Wednesdays) Call Matt at 512-589-4029(Fridays and Saturdays) Call Wandaka at 512-378-3408While volunteering at the farm wear closed-toes shoes, a hat, long pants, and bring sunscreen and a refillable water bottle. The apprentices typically take a break and share snacks, so feel free to bring a snack as well. While this volunteer activity is rain or shine, we do cancel in times of severe weather. We will reach out the morning of to let you know if we have to cancel. Please remember to log your volunteer hours before you leave. You may contact us at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
