Dr. Wilkinson’s Backyard Resort & Mineral Springs invites local Calistogians and visitors alike to a festive pie eating contest (their second of the year), hosted by none other than the Foodie Chap Liam Mayclem on Saturday, December 11. The winner of the contest will receive a two night stay at the newly renovated resort as a first place prize for finishing the most pie (sans hands) in five minutes . This fun and festive complimentary event that lands on the same day as Calistoga’s Ugly Holiday Sweater Day which offers local shopping discounts to participants sporting their favorite eyesore pullover, is open to all on Saturday December 11 from from 3:00 -to 5:00 p.m. with the contest starting at 3:30 pm. The event will be held at House of Better, the resort’s new counter-service restaurant and bar by Trevor Logan of San Francisco’s Green Chile Kitchen and Sonoma-based Chile Pies Baking Co. in Guerneville. Adding to the festivities, the Napa Valley Cruisers will be driving over to the resort to showcase their best vintage wheels. Participants are encouraged to stay for dinner and try new comforting winter dishes such as red chile chicken posole stew, skillet Oaxaca queso blanco (with fire roasted green chile, cilantro, and house-made tortilla chips), and a roasted fennel, apple and camembert flatbread (with carmelized onions, spicy Italian sausage, and toasted hemp hearts).
