Hope to Thrive is joining the anti-racism agenda in Winston-Salem, NC. On December 10, 2021 from 6 pm - 9 pm at the Enterprise Center, we are carving out space for people who are treated as Black Women regardless of their identity in the oppressive norms we live in. We are coming together to be in community to celebrate ourselves and various identities, understand better the racist and other oppressive systems we live in, and begin the process of intentional healing in hope to recreate better ways of engaging with ourselves and our various communities and identities. This formal event is to help celebrate people who are generally treated as black women within our cultural norms. Those willing will have a chance to help co-create a larger space to work on internal oppression, e.g. racial trauma, that is planned for 2022. Focus Items for December 10th: Celebrate ourselves through our presence with each other and cultural identities Naming the space Framing the space Suggested outcomes we will work towards together Guidelines of how we show up in the space Education: thinking critically about yourself, and how to question the world around you Acknowledging colorism and other ways we may oppress each other Encouraging Personal Process by discussing how people can do the work of healing, implement rituals of how to handle trauma, (i.e. whether running or meditating/praying), and how to develop a process to celebrate joy, laughter, and life. Longer Outcomes: There are seven solutions that we will practice as part of this group: nutrition, exercise, journaling, mental health, healthy and nurturing relationships, sleep, and meditation. This group is part of the larger anti-racism program of Hope To Thrive that encourages all of the groups to use these seven solutions that can lead to a healthier county, with less onset of chronic diseases, better chronic disease management, as well as reducing the incidence of the top 10 leading causes of death in the US, while forming a more inclusive economy and society. We are using a trauma informed, trauma responsive, and trauma preventive lens and process. Please see this report for more information about the evidence-based practices and research we will be primarily drawing from: https://osg.ca.gov/sg-report/.
