According to police, the domestic confrontation occurred when the woman tried to leave the home with her six children to prevent an ongoing dispute from escalating.
Police said Washington ran after the woman while she was loading the children in a vehicle. He grabbed a 10-year-old and threw the child on the ground and began punching him in the face, police said.
The mother attempted to stop him, but Washington overpowered her. So she ran back into the house and armed herself with a gun as Washington chased after and threatened her.
Out of fear for her life, she shot toward Washington and grazed his arm. In the process, the bullet struck the 14-year-old who was standing behind Washington in the abdomen.
Washington ran out of the house momentarily, then ran back in, grabbed the woman and began strangling her, said police.
The woman grabbed a knife and stabbed Washington in the back.
Officers arrive moments later.
The 14-year-old child is in stable condition and the 10-year-old sustained minor injuries to his face and scratches on his collar bone.
Washington remains in the hospital in stable condition.
