NORTHPORT, NY — Northport High School has a new set of champions. The school's field hockey team took home the New York State Class A championship following an undefeated 21-0 season. Olivia McKenna scored the only goal of the game with an assist from Shannon Smith, securing the 1-0 win over Shenendehowa. This win was especially meaningful for the team, which captured the Long Island championship last season but did not have the opportunity to play a state championship due to the coronavirus pandemic. The team coined the hashtag "#NotDoneYet" to signify that they weren't finished with their domination of the sport and winning streak. "This team encompasses what it means to be a Northport High School Tiger athlete," Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Mark Dantuono said via news release. "They play their hearts out and their undefeated record reflects that. The commitment of their coaches, their parents and of course, the students themselves is what makes this team extraordinary." The team defeated Clarence High School in the NYS Class A semifinals to advance to the showdown with Shenendehowa.
