New Reading Animal Clinic Building Breaks Ground

READING, MA — The Reading Animal Clinic broke ground on its new building at a ceremony on Nov. 7. The plan calls for a 10,959-square-foot, two-story building to be built next to its current facility, with the two buildings sharing 47 parking spaces. At the groundbreaking event, Select Board Chair Karen Herrick highlighted clinic owner Elizabeth Shurland's sustainability efforts. Shurland worked with the Reading Municipal Light Department to ensure that there will be electric charging stations once the building is completed, and the clinic "may be the first business in Reading that will be constructing a building with geothermal heating and cooling," Herrick said. "[Geothermal] is new to Reading, and someone has to be first, especially from a commercial perspective," Herrick added. Construction on the new building is expected to be completed sometime next year.
