City To Appoint Cummings' Successor For District 9 In Waukesha

WAUKESHA, WI— The City of Waukesha Common Council will appoint a successor for former Alderman Kathleen Cummings' seat in District 9, according to the city. Cummings, who abruptly resigned as a Waukesha County Supervisor and alderman after serving for over 20 years, was charged with seven felonies after investigators found she was using two different addresses, according to online court documents and a criminal complaint. Cummings is accused of not living in her home district for nine years of her time in public service, the complaint said. She was elected as alderman of District 9 for 20 years and as County Supervisor for District 19 for 22 years, the complaint said. An aldermanic seat will be appointed by the Council. The appointment will be considered on Dec. 7 and would run to April 19, 2022. Applications must be received by December 2 at 4:30 p.m. The police department will conduct a background check on applicants to determine whether any criminal convictions exist that would disqualify an applicant from being appointed to office. During the Council meeting on Dec. 7 those candidates interested in filling the unexpired term will be interviewed and selected by the Council, the city said.
