The answer is simple. Biden and Newsom, if they had any balls (which they don't) and willing to ruffle some union feathers, would be all over this. There are hundreds of independent truckers who cannot do their thing because their truck engines have been decertified. All trucks have to have engines younger the 2010. Older trucks can only operate in CA under strict "come and get and leave" rules. Older drivers have had their licenses lifted because DMV says they are, well, too old. The price of diesel is so high, many independent operators don't think the numbers pencil out. We have hundreds of trucks and drivers sitting on the sidelines because of regulations and costs. Newsome and Biden need to issue "executive orders" granting temporary waivers on trucks, drivers and a diesel cost rebate to let independents go back to work and help clear the bottleneck. And we need more than truckers. We need warehouse workers. Time to call up the National Guard. Lots of "hands on deck" to move stuff from container to warehouse and from warehouse to delivery system. Time to reach out to retired civilian and military logistics people who have done this for a lifetime and know this crap inside out. This is not rocket science. It needs hard ass decision makers, with the authority to fire lazy, cheating, scum sucking leaches, calling the shots with no regulatory assholes telling them what they cannot do. Fire a few and the rest will start doing their jobs. Problem solved.
