Lowell Mason House Concert Will Be LIVE Once Again At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, the 7th Annual Lowell Mason House Holiday Concert will return as a LIVE performance to be held in a new venue, St.Edward the Confessor Church at 133 Spring Street in Medfield. With "Music Creates Community" as the theme of this year's event, the concert will feature remarks by Jerry Kazanjian, retired Holliston Band Director and Medfield resident of more than 43 years. In addition to decades as an award-winning music educator (including the Lowell Mason Award for Music Education), Kazanjian has been actively involved in the Medfield community in a variety of ways through musical endeavors and long-time scouting leadership. Weather permitting, concert attendees will be treated to an outdoor choral performance kicking off the event, as well as a community sing-along to conclude the night in keeping with the theme. Concertgoers are advised to dress accordingly, and masks are required for all regardless of vaccination status. Among the featured performers in this year's 2021 concert will be: Concert pianist David McGrory, Medfield High School small-group ensembles, Becca and John Kornet, Trills 'n Chills a cappella group, Treblemakers from Montrose School, and MEMO Joy to the World outstanding performers. Beginning Nov. 21, they will also be sold at Medfield senior center, in St. Edward's parish office (10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Wednesday), and at the concert door. Prices are $20 for each adult ticket; $15 each for seniors and students; and $50 for families of any size. Groups of students or seniors can also take advantage of the family discount if tickets are purchased together. Cash and check made payable to Lowell Mason House accepted at local ticket venues. Known as the Father of Music Education in America's schools, Lowell Mason was born in Medfield in 1792, and historical references state that he learned to play several instruments at a young age, became the choir director of his church at age 16, and directed the Medfield town band. In addition to Mason's role in music education and as a director, he was also a composer and arranger who collaborated on a number of well-known songs, including the holiday classic, "Joy to the World," and the lesser-known, "Christmas Bells." The house where Mason was born was saved from demolition and moved to its current Green Street location adjacent to Hinkley Pond in 2011. Each year, proceeds from the annual holiday concert bring the Lowell Mason House renovation and construction efforts closer to completion for the ultimate benefit of music educators, students and the community at large.
