Charges Filed Against Armed Man In Standoff With Trumbull Cops

TRUMBULL, CT — A man armed with a handgun held Trumbull police at bay for four hours in the Tashua Road area Tuesday night after what started as a domestic disturbance, according to authorities. The standoff ended with the suspect's arrest, and no injuries were reported. The incident began at about 8 p.m. when Trumbull police were called to the area about the domestic case. "Before police arrived, the suspect fled from the house to an adjacent building on the property armed with a handgun," Trumbull police wrote on Facebook (see below). That suspect was Robert Zambrzycki, 42, of Tashua Road, who police said hid in a boat on the property before eventually surrendering. Zambrzycki's wife had phoned police about a verbal argument between the two. "She stated that Zambrzycki left the house with a loaded firearm and fired one gunshot in an unknown direction just outside the door while he was on their property," Trumbull police said. "The family was told to shelter in place inside their home as Trumbull Police responded and surrounded the property. Members of the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team also responded and negotiated with the Zambrzycki, who later peacefully surrendered to the officers." In addition to the family, residents in the immediate area were notified by a Trumbull Citizen Alert Message also to stay inside and lock all doors until the incident was under control, which finally ended just after midnight Wednesday. Zambrzycki was taken by Trumbull EMS to St. Vincent's Hospital for evaluation, where he was charged with unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment. He was released on a promise to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on Nov. 29.
