BROCKTON, MA — A Massachusetts State Police trooper has been suspended without pay and faces several criminal charges after his girlfriend reported an alleged domestic violence incident, officials said. Jordan Cavaco, 27, of Brockton was charged with domestic assault and battery, strangulation and kidnapping, 7 News Boston reported. On May 28, 2021, Cavaco and his girlfriend were arguing while he was driving, according to Boston 25 News. He allegedly pulled off of I-93 to Gallivan Boulevard, where he choked her and "punched her repeatedly," the TV station said. Cavaco reportedly wouldn't let the woman exit the car and drove back to his apartment, Mass Live reported. State police told Boston 25 News that they learned of the allegations when the victim filed a report with a local police department. Cavaco was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court and will be suspended without pay for the duration of criminal and internal investigations, Massachusetts State Police Col. Christopher Mason said, as reported by 7 News. "The facts as alleged by the victim are unconscionable," Mason said in a statement. "Allegations of domestic violence committed by anyone, regardless of occupation or affiliation, will be thoroughly investigated and, if the evidence warrants, will be swiftly answered by criminal charges and prosecution."
