BOSTON — Today marks a historical day as Michelle Wu is sworn in as Mayor of Boston, marking the first time voters elected a women, or a person, of color to lead the city. Before Wu's victory, Boston had only elected white men as mayor. Former acting Mayor Kim Janey, who was on-hand at the ceremony to introduce Wu, was Boston's first woman and first Black resident to take on the top ranking role, however she was not elected by the people. Wu's husband and two children were among the guests at the ceremony, which included notable high profile politicians like U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren and U.S. Sen. Edward Markey. Former Boston acting-Mayor Kim Janey, and at left is Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker was also in attendance as well. "City government is special. We are the level closest to the people, so we must do the big and the small. Every streetlight, every pothole, every park and classroom, lays the foundation for greater change," Wu said after taking the oath of office.
