Updated: 2:15 p.m. MCLEAN, VA — All northbound lanes of the Capital Beltway/I-495 in the McLean area reopened to traffic shortly after 2 p.m., following a preliminary investigation by Virginia State Police into a two-vehicle crash that had occurred earlier in the day. VSP troopers responded around 10:37 a.m., for the report of a crash that occurred in the northbound lanes of I-495 near the George Washington Parkway exit, according to a police release. A preliminary investigation revealed that a Toyota sedan had stopped partially in the right-hand lane and on the right shoulder. A box truck that was approaching the stopped sedan from behind attempted to change lanes, but the Toyota suddenly pulled into the travel lane, according to police. The vehicles then collided into each other. The woman who was driving the Toyota and a 6-year-old boy passenger were taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries. Another adult woman, who was a passenger in the Toyota, was also transported to the hospital to be treated for life-threatening injuries. The man who was driving the box truck was not injured in the collision, according to police. The crash and subsequent VSP investigation forced the closure of all northbound lanes of the Inner Loop for several hours, causing backups all the way to I-66 in Fairfax County. All reopened to traffic shortly after 2 p.m. A Toyota Sedan collided with box truck Wednesday morning on the Inner Loop of the Capital Beltway near the exit for the George Washington Parkway in Fairfax County.
