As of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, 281 people had donated more than $36,000 toward the GoFundMe's $40,000 goal.
Around 2:49 p.m. on Nov. 11, Arlington County Police responded to the 3500 block of 23rd Street S. for the report of a crash involving a motorcycle and an Arlington County school bus. Arriving on the scene, the officers located Zikic partially under the bus.
A preliminary investigation determined that Zikic was traveling at a high rate speed when the motorcycle he was riding emerged from an alley on 23rd Street S. and onto Kenmore Street. He attempted to avoid striking the oncoming bus by laying the motorcycle down, which is how he ended up under the larger vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
At the time of the crash, 14 students were on the bus. They were able to exit the vehicle safety and were evaluated by medics. No other injuries were reported.
