Description

NAPERVILLE, IL — The Naperville City Council unanimously approved a proposal for Islamic Center of Naperville's multiphase mosque and school development Tuesday night, Daily Herald reports. Prior to Tuesday's 9-0 vote, the proposed project was met with resistance from some residents who live near the 13.6-acre construction site at 3540 248th Ave. Those who opposed the development cited noise pollution, light pollution and the scope of the construction, which is set to take place over a 40-year period in five phases. The approval came with an agreement by Islamic Center of Naperville to notify nearby residents and post signage at the site before moving to the third and fourth phase of construction. Other compromises that were reached prior to the planning and zoning commission's approval of the mosque included Islamic Center of Naperville agreeing to manage its traffic during busy times and agreeing not to amplify sound outdoors. Islamic Center of Naperville currently has mosques at 2844 W. Ogden Ave., 25W530 75th St. and 450 Olesen Dr. More via Daily Herald Read more on Patch: Islamic Center's New Mosque Development Up For Vote In Naperville Proposed Naperville Mosque Draws Resistance, Support Mosque Plans Meet Some Resistance In Naperville: Report
