ELMHURST, IL — A Republican state representatives announced Wednesday that he is running for the seat held by state Sen. Suzy Glowiak Hilton, D-Western Springs, whose 24th District includes all or parts of Elmhurst, Hinsdale and Clarendon Hills. Seth Lewis, a Bartlett resident, was elected to the state House in 2020 and Hilton to the Senate in 2018. Hilton has not announced whether she is running for a second term, but she is raising money. She had about $60,000 in her campaign account at the end of the last quarter. In a news release, Lewis did not mention Hilton, but said he saw an opportunity to run for Senate after redistricting. He highlighted his sponsorship of "Cal's Law," which he said helps children afflicted with pediatric cancer gain access to life-saving comprehensive testing. It passed unanimously in both the House and Senate. Lewis also touted his ability to work on a bipartisan basis. "I know there are issues we disagree on, but I hope that we will remember how we collaborated on a bipartisan basis, and use that as a path to make Illinois a better place to live," Lewis said. A small business owner, Lewis has been married to Dr. Bhavna Sharma-Lewis for 24 years and moved to Bartlett in 2001, raising their children who are now in college. Before starting his business, he worked in various positions in manufacturing. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Iowa. Hilton defeated Republican Sen. Chris Nybo R-Elmhurst, in the 2018 election with 50.8 percent of the vote. She ran unopposed in the Democratic primary that year. Nybo, who served six years in the House and Senate, later became a lobbyist.
