EDINA, MN — The Edina Police Department is urging residents to lock their cars after three vehicles were stolen from homes in the city over the weekend. Police said they also fielded several reports of thefts from cars. Edina's Indian Hills and Country Club neighborhoods have been recent targets for thieves, prompting increased patrols, Edina police said in a news release. Auto-related thefts are up more than 25 percent over this time last year, with 62 crimes reported in 2021 compared to 49 in 2020, police said. "The overwhelming majority of vehicles stolen were unlocked with keys left inside." Edina police said residents should take their keys with them and not leave a set in or on their cars; close windows and lock doors; close garage doors, even when home; park in well-lit areas; and never leave vehicles running unattended. Coronavirus Vaccine Mandate On Hold For Edina School Staff The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends installing an audible alarm and using a visible anti-theft device, the release states.
