CMS Bus Driver Recruitment Event Offers Drivers $17.75 An Hour

CHARLOTTE, NC — Pay for school bus drivers in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System has climbed again, this time to $17.75 after a vote last month. As recently as June, pay was $15.75 an hour. There is a nationwide school bus driver shortage and CMS is hiring new drivers in an event on Thursday. The event will be held at Northpointe Bus Lot, 4400 Northpointe Industrial Blvd. from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. CMS has one of the top ten largest transportation departments in the state, boasting more than 1,400 employees. To become a school bus driver at CMS, this is what you must have: Qualifications: Must be able to pass the NC school bus driver written and road testMust have a valid drivers license for at least six (6) months Minimum of 6 months professional work experienceMust be 18 years of ageGood driving recordGood work referencesHave dependable transportation to and from workAbility and willingness to work with students and adultsProfessional and positive work attitudeMust be able to perform the essential functions of the job The DMV requires all bus driver applicants to obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) before scheduling behind the wheel training.
