Another Pedestrian Hit By Car And Killed In Marietta; Man Charged

MARIETTA, GA — Almost 24 hours after a man was hit by a car and killed while trying to walk across Cobb Parkway, another pedestrian suffered the same fate in a different location. Around 8:50 p.m. Tuesday night, 58-year-old Debra Jones of Marietta was trying to cross Delk Road outside of a crosswalk with her two elementary-school-aged grandchildren. Jones stepped into the road first and was hit by an unknown car, Marietta Police Department spokesperson Officer Chuck McPhilamy said. The grandchildren were not injured. The suspect driver did not stop to render aid or report the incident. Jones was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. About 30 minutes later, Howard Arden, 63, of Dunwoody contacted MPD saying he may have hit something or someone on Delk Road. Arden said when he got to his home in Dunwoody, he saw damage to the front of his car, McPhilamy said. Arden was taken into custody and charged with felony hit and run and booked into the Cobb County jail. Additional charges may be filed pending on the outcome of the investigation, according to police. Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to contact police at 770-794-5357. This is the second person to be hit by a car and killed while trying to walk across a Marietta area road in the last two days. On Monday night, a man was killed while trying to cross Cobb Parkway on foot. The driver fled the scene but was eventually caught at Kennesaw State University's Marietta campus.
