Description
10-Person Wild Mushroom Foray with SOMA at Salt Point State Park, socially distanced and wearing masks. Lunch is included! SOMA Wild Mushroom Forays provide a great opportunity to get out in the woods to identify and collect wild mushrooms. Our forays are open to the public and we welcome all ages and experience levels. Because we are not going to be able to hold our usual annual wild mushroom camp in Occidental next January (still working on offering an alternative!) we are providing these forays to help finance our scholarship fund. Due to COVID-19 groups are limited to 10 people at Salt Point State Park. Masks are required for each participant. SOMA foray Captain Mike Miller will lead the group on a moderate hike of approx 2-3 miles. Salt Point State Park provides the possibility of abundant wild mushrooms after adequate rains in the fall--exact conditions are always unknown beforehand--but no matter what, do expect to learn important mushrooming tips that you'll take with you forever. You can email Patrick Hamilton (foray coordinator) for further information: [email protected]. We will meet in Jenner at 8:45am at the Boat Launch parking lot on the river across from the Jenner Sea Store and Gas. Be on time because we leave at 09:00! We will caravan to Salt Point State Park, arriving approximately 09:40 and be finished hiking around 1:30 to 2:00. Lunch is provided after the foray. If you will not make it on time, or have to cancel, send Ken Buegeleisen (SOMA Treasurer) a text at 707-326-5211. Day Use fee for Salt Point State Park is $8 per car, must bring exact cash amount to deposit in envelopes at the park. A mushroom-themed individual box lunch is included, and you can specify dietary restrictions when you register. Your tax-deductible foray fee will go to our scholarship fund. We award $10,000-$15,000 per year in scholarships for mycology students. Fee for the foray is $85 per person for SOMA members, or $95 for non-members. Annual membership is only $25 for family, or $20 for seniors, so Join SOMA today!
