Description
Locally-owned and operated consulting firm is seeking a full-time Hazardous Materials Specialist for its Pearl City office. Employee must possess the necessary knowledge, education, experience, physical abilities, and communication skills to perform the duties described below: • Compile regulatory and job documents (e.g., shipping manifests, LDRN’s, job folders, etc.). • Assist with the collection multi-media samples in support of environmental investigation and remediation projects. • Generally responsible for field activities related to waste management operations including but not limited to: o Coordination with Manager/Supervisor/Co-Workers, contact/interaction with clients, proper labeling, marking, and manifesting of shipments in accordance with applicable EPA and DOT regulations. o Load shipment on and off of trucks safely and compliantly. Lift heavy objects (40 pounds). o Safely transport hazardous & non-hazardous waste while operating company vehicles. o Obeys all traffic laws and regulations while operating and driving company vehicle. Wears personal protective equipment as required by ETC, DOT, OSHA, and customer regulations. o Immediately reports all releases, accidents, near misses, and injuries involving employee or others while operating company vehicles/equipment to the Supervisor/Manager. o Verifies that the load, tools, equipment, and materials are secured properly before transporting begins. o Use powered and manual tools properly and safely. o Be able to travel inter-island frequently. o Must be in good physical health with no pre-existing conditions that prevent the use of a respirator or personal protective equipment needed for field operations. • Pass an occupational physical and drug screen. • Use good judgment to safely perform duties. • Perform all other duties as needed. Preferred Qualifications: • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, or other physical science. • Possess a working knowledge of various federal and state regulations, rules, and guidance documents related to the generation, storage, packaging, transportation, and final disposition of solid waste, hazardous waste, and related waste which may include, but is not limited to CERCLA and TSCA waste. • Proficient with PC and MS Office. • Valid Hawaii drivers’ license, vehicle, and vehicle insurance • Strong reading comprehension, writing, and verbal communication skills. • Detail-oriented with strong organization and time management skills. • Ability to work independently and in a team setting, organize/manage multiple priorities, and conduct problem analysis/resolution. • Positive attitude and excellent client-services skills. • Must be able to interview in Honolulu/Pearl City. • Preference will be given to those candidates who possess a commercial driver’s license or have previous HazMat experience.
