Description

World AIDS Day 2021: Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access Join HIV Alliance for World AIDS Day in Eugene! World AIDS Day is on Wednesday December 1st and this year’s theme is “Ending the HIV Epidemic: Equitable Access.” We recognize World AIDS Day as a day to honor our combined work to end HIV, celebrate our collective successes, and remember those that we have lost.HIV Alliance is committed to ending HIV-related and other serious health disparities experienced by BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and other communities in Oregon that experience barriers to service. We are working to create an environment where everyone is able to receive the same high quality education and health services to help prevent and treat HIV. This year we will be hosting several ceremonies throughout Oregon in collaboration with our community partners. In Eugene, we will be hosting a day at the Downtown park blocks from 2:00 to 7:00pm. We are partnering with Transponder, the Eugene-Springfield NAACP, Centro Latino Americano, and Willamette Family Inc., to raise awareness on how HIV affects our communities and to come together to increase equitable access to healthcare for all. We will be offering free HIV testing from 2:00 to 6:00pm, followed by a commemoration at 6:00pm with live entertainment. To close, we will hold a memorial walk around the Park Blocks led by Eugene’s 2021 Slug Queen Galaxia Cosmos to remember those we have loved and lost. After the event, head downtown to First National Taphouse. They are hosting a $1/pint donation all day and the team will be reconvening there for a casual afterparty. Head to the Taphouse after our event or anytime that day to support HIV Alliance and World AIDS Day.
