House of worship in Lexington Massachusetts is seeking an experienced custodian to join our maintenance team, to implement cleaning initiatives, to provide quality control measure and maintain a safe environment. This includes performing a wide variety of cleaning and maintenance activities. The custodian should be comfortable working independently, have good judgement, and be able to prioritize their duties appropriately in a fast-paced environment. Must have prior experience working in a similar environment and be customer and service oriented. Shifts range from weekday evenings from 5PM to 10PM-ish, some weekend evenings and/or days may be needed. Flexibility in the work schedule is key. Responsibilities for the position include: • The ability to read and write and to decipher set-up diagrams, to follow written instructions, and to evaluate complex instructions and concepts in room set-ups. • Ability to set-up and breakdown worship, functions, and school events throughout the facility. • Able to manage multiple priorities and events, such as School dinners, worship Services, supervision of caterers, and group meetings, while completing the daily cleaning routines in the building. • Assisting with community dinners, running dish machine, making coffee, and helping with the logistics events. • Able to follow written instructions and diagrams for event layouts. • Support for Worship Services and events by checking and setting up audio equipment, microphones, speakers, and projectors/screens. • Provide support to Temple’s staff and congregants in a helpful and friendly manner. • Maintain cleanliness of floors by sweeping, scrubbing, mopping. Assist annually to refinish floors using a power scrubber. • Empty and clean trash receptacles, compost and collect recycling. • Clean, sanitize, and re-supply bathrooms. • Clean and service custodial equipment as needed. • Report any safety, sanitary, or fire hazards to the manager. • Secure building by locking windows, doors and close the building at the end of the night shift. • Ensure walks and entry ways are clear of snow and not slippery. Qualifications for Custodian • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. • Previous custodial experience preferred. • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. • Possess working knowledge of the methods, techniques, and safety protocols used in commercial settings. • Familiar with cleaning concepts and methods used in a commercial environment. • Must pass a CORI background check, have own transportation, and must have the ability to speak, read and write English.
