Description

Meet and greet a newly formed team dedicated to helping Amarillo develop access to the Cross Bar transforming it into a recreation haven. Join us to: get to know us better;learn more about the Cross Bar;what we’re planning;what we’ll need from the stakeholders with a vested interest in opening the Cross Bar to the public, and;what’s in it for the community.WHAT'S THE CROSS BAR: The Cross Bar is a hidden gem just outside of Amarillo, and one of the few parcels of public lands in the entire state of Texas. Unfortunately, current access to the Cross Bar is treacherous, so this special recreation management area is essentially inaccessible to the public. Fortunately, developing safe and suitable public access to the Cross Bar is possible according to a feasibility study conducted by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). WHAT'S IN IT FOR AMARILLO: Opening the Cross Bar to the public and developing its infrastructure will benefit people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds and can help, in part, transition Amarillo from a pass-through city into a destination. The physical, social, environmental, and economic benefits to Amarillo and the surrounding communities are enormous. MEET THE NEW TEAM: Kashion Smith – Executive Director, Amarillo Convention and Visitors BureauAdrian Escobar – Natural Resource Specialist, Bureau of Land ManagementLori McCullough – Founder, The Great Outdoors Fund
