Soul/Jazz guitarist needed for The Heavy Sounds

The Heavy Sounds are an established instrumental Soul Jazz group. Our sound is based on the great 60’s Soul Jazz of artists like Grant Green, Lou Donaldson, and Jack McDuff, as well the Soul sounds of Booker T and the MG’s, the Meters, and Motown’s Funk Brothers. We’ve played throughout the city at venues such as the Hideout, Space, Fitzgerald’s, Martyrs, and California Clipper. Sharing the stage with contemporary Soul acts such as the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio, Monophonics, and Kelly Finnigan and the Atonements. When we’re not performing as an instrumental group, we also back up various singers including Renaldo Domino, Oscar Wilson, and Gina Bloom. We released our first single in 2020 and continue to write and perform original material. We’re in search of a full time member who is well versed in the styles of Grant Green, Melvin Sparks, Steve Cropper, Teenie Hodges, and Dennis Coffey. Our sound is very old school and we keep it in that tradition. We also recently added an alto sax player to the group and are now a five piece including drums, bass, And Hammond organ. We currently have gigs booked up through March and have a monthly night at Fitzgerald’s Sidebar. Typically the third or last Saturday of every month.
