Description
A Change for the Dreamline Exhibition and Concert Join us on December 11th for an evening of art and music celebrating Hermon Mehari's sophomore album, "A Change For The Dreamlike". “A Change for the Dreamlike” takes on a personal tone and was written and recorded in a barn in the French countryside during le confinement. It shows only hints at the aesthetic set by his debut album. The songs are play like personal journal entries, versions and visions of wishes, fantasies, and memories. Together they create a kind of modern mixtape of dreams, in every sense of the word, in which the trumpet is a vulnerable presence. The project features a number of incredible musicians: Tony Tixier, Peter Schlamb, Ryan J. Lee, Kae Dilla, DeAndre Manning, Hugo LX, Karl McComas-Reichl, Jeff Hill and Zach Morrow. Mehari will perform his first US performance of "A Change for the Dreamlike" in the Parkway Room at the 1900 Building. He will be playing the work in its entirety with a quintet featuring contributors to the album, including vibraphonist Peter Schlamb and keyboardist Kae Dilla. The live interpretations of the compositions bring new life and energy to them while retaining their intimate and personal characteristics. Mehari and the 1900 Building are giving a portion of the proceeds to benefit the "Collectif MiRR", his Paris based association that organizes cultural events, concerts, residencies, and international exchanges. A free exhibition centered around Mehari’s, “A Change for the Dreamlike” will open December 11 in the Fountain Room at 1900 and run until mid-January 2022. The 1900 Building is the finest office/mixed use building in the Kansas City area. The location (Shawnee Mission Parkway & State Line Rd.) and views are superb. The iconic 1960's gem has recently been restored and expanded to include state of the art performance, conference and event spaces, a cafe/restaurant, roof terrace and LEED Gold certification.
