Description

The Honorable Anne Segal will cover legal terminology and the roles and relationships of the people who worked in the courtroom. Alice Truman was the the first woman Superior Court Judge in Pima County and the last Superior Court Judge to use the Dillinger Courtroom full-time. This presentation will consider the roles of different Pima County Superior Court judges as people as well as the different roles of people in the courtroom. In this presentation, Segal will examine different people who worked in the courtroom at various times and talk a little about their lives as people. For example, Judge Alice Truman was extremely elegant, came from a traditional Southern home and broke her family mold when she became an attorney and judge. Anne Segal is a Tucsonan and grew up learning about the mid-century modern news of the courts, the people and the history of Pima County. Anne graduated from the University of Arizona, University of San Diego School of Law and the New Mexico State doctoral program in Educational Management and Development. She is married to Dr. Robert Segal and has three children who graduated from Tucson schools. As an attorney, Ph.D educator and author of books about mental health and the criminal justice system, Anne developed a keen interest in the laws of Arizona and the people who created them, caused them and kept them alive. In the series for the Dillinger Courtroom Anne will explore the roles and relationships of the people who worked in the courtroom, terminology of the law for the people and, in a session on Friday, review the facts that created the cases which transformed national policies and human rights. The Pima County Historic Courthouse is among Tucson’s most beloved landmarks. Designed by architect Roy Place, this iconic Spanish Colonial Revival-styled structure was built in 1929 and remained in service for an 86-year span during which time it served as the backdrop for numerous wedding proceedings and became home to several County departments.
