SALEM, MA — One person is dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and another was Medflighted to a Boston hospital following a double shooting on Technology Way in Salem early Monday night. Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said Monday night that a 55-year-old man suspect was found dead outside of a manufacturing business on 3 Technology Way, while a 33-year-old victim was rushed to Salem Hospital and then flown to a Boston Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Blodgett said it was an apparent murder-suicide attempt. "That's speculation right now but that's what appears to have happened," Blodgett said at a news conference. "They were known to each other." Salem Police Chief Lucas Miller said the woman worked in the industrial park and that both the victim and the suspects were from New Hampshire. "The exact nature of their relationship is not known at this time," Miller said. Salem and Essex County police were called to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. for reports of a shooting. Salem police said earlier Monday night there was "no immediate threat to the public" but that roads in the area remain closed. "Obviously, when there are shots fired we want to be as careful as possible," Miller said. "There was a large police presence in the area but we have no reason to believe there are outstanding perpetrators." Miller said a reverse 9-1-1 call went out to area residents letting them know there was a police response and to stay away from the area if possible. The names of the suspect and victim were withheld Monday night pending notification of families. Did you find this article useful? Invite a friend to subscribe to Patch.
