MIAMI, FL — A Miami Beach police officer was finally released from the hospital Monday after months-long treatment for COVID-19. Officer JC Sampedro was hospitalized with coronavirus in July, Miami Beach police said. He spent 11 weeks in the intensive care unit, where he was intubated and placed on a ventilator. As Sampedro left the hospital in a wheelchair Monday, he was surprised by family, friends and coworkers. "I can't thank you enough. Your prayers were heard. Definitely, there's a big man upstairs and he pulled through for me and my family," the emotional officer said in a video shared by police. Sampredo, a former U.S. Marine, has served with the Miami Beach Police Department since 1996. He'll continue his rehabilitation at home, police said.
