Waterford Man Charged With Threatening Governor: State Police

WATERFORD, CT — A Waterford man has been charged on allegations that he made threatening tweets against Gov. Ned Lamont, according to state police. Jonathan Wright, 41, of 18 Laurel Crest Drive, was charged with second-degree threatening. According to state police, Wright tweeted Oct. 26: "You are scum living on borrowed time. President Trump knows what you did to the elderly Covid patients that were sent to nursing homes. All is known and you will meet your maker courtesy of a noose and a trap door. Treason = Death." He also made other threatening tweets Oct. 20 and 21, according to state police. Police met with Wright on Oct. 28. Wright told police that he did not mean anything threatening when he wrote the tweet and that he "just was angry about what had heard." Wright said he heard that government leaders had been putting COVID patients into nursing homes getting elderly people sick. "Wright was angry about that and he said that leaders should be held accountable just like we are if that is true," state police said. Wright was arrested Oct. 26 and his bond was set at $30,000. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 29.
