DARIEN, CT — A Darien resident's entire sneaker collection worth over $3,000 was reported stolen Saturday after the resident attempted to sell a pair in Stamford. In a news release, Police Sgt. Dan Skoumbros said a Joseph Street resident told officers he was contacted through Facebook messenger around 6:45 p.m. by someone looking to purchase sneakers from him. The resident agreed to meet the potential buyer at the Stamford Train Station for the transaction but was unable to contact the buyer again on his way to Stamford, Skoumbros said. When the resident returned home around 7:30 p.m., he found his locked bedroom door had been opened and both the locking mechanism and surrounding door were broken, Skoumbros said. The resident reported his entire sneaker collection, valued at approximately $3,800, and an additional $1,400 missing, Skoumbros said.
