ROUND ROCK, TX — Round Rock ISD will drop to Orange/Stage 4 of it COVID-19 risk-based guidance following the county's decision to use the CDC's data tracker to determine its guidance. In the Orange stage, masks are still required in district schools and facilities; however, students and staff may opt-out of the mask requirement for health or developmental reasons. For exemptions, parents, guardians, and staff must complete their respective forms. Once completed, parents and guardians can submit a copy of their form and provide any documentation through the Mask Exemption Document Form. Live in Round Rock? Staff will turn in their completed form and/or appropriate documentation to their immediate supervisor. Students and staff who previously submitted forms do not need to resubmit. The decision by the school district was a response to the Williamson County and Cities Health District announcement Monday. The health authority said it would now be using the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Data Tracker for determining risk-based phases in Williamson County. The phases are used to inform the public of the COVID-19 community transmission risk. Currently, the CDC Data Tracker has Williamson County at Orange/Substantial Community Transmission. Currently, Austin/Travis County is in Phase 3 according to Austin Public Health's risk-based guidelines. The District's Mask Matrix is based on the risk-based phases of Austin Public Health and the WCCHD. If the two indicators suggest different levels, the District's stage will reflect the higher threshold, officials said.
