BRIDGEPORT, CT — A Bridgeport couple has been awarded more than $4 million in a lawsuit claiming that a surgeon's malpractice paralyzed a man, according to The Connecticut Post. A six-member jury deliberated the case for about eight hours before ruling in favor of Eric and Brenda Thomas. The lawsuit claimed that in September 2015, Eric Thomas went to St. Vincent's Medical Center for a minor procedure to remove a skin lesion. During the surgery, the suit stated that Dr. Steven Hirshorn recommended that Thomas go off his anti-coagulation therapy, which resulted in Thomas having a severe embolic stroke, according to The Connecticut Post. Thomas was left with permanent stroke side effects including partial left-sided paralysis.
