BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore man is a millionaire after winning the grand prize in a scratch-off game, according to the Maryland Lottery. The player purchased a ticket for the $5,000 Loaded game at a store on North Howard Street. While his usual scratch-off spot is the Lexington Market, he told lottery officials he stopped at Oak Street Station Oceanic to get gas at 2040 North Howard Street and bought some tickets. He prefers to buy the $20 and $30 games, he told lottery officials. The $5,000 Loaded game, which has five more top prizes remaining, costs $20 to play. Later the man went to Lexington Market to cash in, and he told the Maryland Lottery: "The clerk said, 'I can't cash this!'" Prizes greater than $25,000 have to go to the Maryland Lottery Claims Center in Baltimore, which is open by appointment only. After winning $1 million, the Baltimore man said he has plans for his prize money. "First I'm going to buy a car," he told lottery officials. "Then, I'm going to buy a house." He said he also plans to settle bills, buy more lottery tickets and keep his win a secret. The player and his wife are not the only winners. For selling a scratch-off worth more than $100,000, the Maryland Lottery will give Oak Street Station Oceanic a $1,000 bonus.
