TEMECULA, CA — A solo-vehicle crash Monday night at a Temecula roundabout left one person with life-threatening injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash was reported around 6:30 p.m. at Rancho California and Anza roads.
The CHP's preliminary report showed a 26-year-old Temecula man was driving eastbound on Rancho California Road in a 2003 Chrysler at a high rate of speed while illegally passing other vehicles. Near the Anza Road roundabout, he lost control of his car and smashed head-on into a concrete light pole.
He was found unconscious suffering from major life-threatening injuries, according to the CHP.
Alcohol was a possible crash factor, the CHP said.
No other injuries were reported.
Southern California Edison was called to the scene for "power line issues," according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The incident was reported on the same day that a young Temecula woman was killed on Rancho California Road. The CHP provided an update Tuesday. Read more: UPDATE: Temecula Woman Killed In Rancho California Road Head-On Crash
