Description
Washington has no income tax but they do have a tax plan that is just for you. It starts January 1st and if you have not applied for the opt-out clause you will be enrolled automatically. Apparently you only get one chance to opt out and after that your screwed. The state will start out by taking a small portion of your paycheck and putting it in a general fund. The state will no doubt be collecting interest from a special bank account.
When you grow old and you need care because you can't take care of yourself the plan comes to your rescue. What if you are like in your twenties and pay into it for 30 odd years and decide to move out of Washington. A better job offer has you move out of state. All that money you have put into the account is no longer available to you. WTF just happened? Hocus pocus now you see it now you don't.
Good luck on opt-out folks. There are a few hoops to jump through and the state website is having problems. I got a email saying they would respond in about 6 weeks??? Good luck calling there customer support team. No one answers and all you get is a recording. There web site is not user friendly and can be confusing. Democrats really worked overtime on this bill.
I wonder if they will be able to keep there dirty paws out of the fund? Probably not since they have their pet projects to fund. Remember the state collect money from the Washington state lottery. The I-405 pay for a lane brought the state millions more money than expected, wonder where it all went ha ha ha
