From East Tennessee State University: November 15, 2021 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Grab your dancing shoes. "Funky music" is the theme of the fall concert put on by the East Tennessee State University Jazz Ensemble. The event happens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 19, in the ETSU Foundation Grand Hall of the ETSU Martin Center for the Arts. "Our concert is going to feature soulful hits from the '70s, '80s, Motown and more," said Martin Walters, director of Jazz and Contemporary Music Studies at ETSU and a multiple Grammy winner. "And we think everyone's going to get their groove on." Joining the ETSU Jazz Ensemble are world-renowned saxophonist Will Boyd, jazz vocalist Kelle Jolly, and Dan Hitchcock, a jazz performer and member of the ETSU Department of Music faculty. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $5 for seniors and free for students with ETSU ID. Get tickets through the Martin Center. All proceeds benefit scholarships and program funding for students of the ETSU Department of Music. "It has been almost two years since we've been able to perform live," said Walters. "And we're looking forward to getting back in front of an audience and especially excited to be on the stage at the new Martin Center Grand Hall." Masks will be required at all indoor events.
