COVENTRY, RI — A Coventry student was arrested in connection with a lockdown at the school Monday, police said Tuesday. The student's identity was not released. The lockdown was triggered a little before 1 p.m., Coventry High School Principal Brooke Macomber said in a statement. The student who was later arrested made a threat while passing between classes, which was overheard. Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed under lockdown and Coventry police were called to the building to investigate. No weapons were found during the search, police said, and the student did not have access to a gun. The student was charged with disorderly conduct, and their case will be referred to family court. During the lockdown, Macomber assured parents that "all students and staff are safe and secure in their classrooms with their teachers," while police worked to search the buildings and personal belongings.
